The 4,000 Home-Schoolers that said;"No" to SB 136 !!!!!

By Felecia Snowden

Yesterday, February 15, 2011 was an amazing day that I and mostly all of the Illinois Home Schoolers has ever seen. I do hope, even those that were not opposed to the law, would see that we home schoolers will stand up for what we believe in!  This is an experience that all home schoolers will not forget for their entire lives! Even the wait to the Howlett building was fun, because I knew that standing there was, doing something for the cause (in standing against having to register and being
controlled by the government). Sen. Maloney  wrote bill 136 stating; "The bill was to impact the Home schoolers ONLY. As well as to mandate registration for homeschoolers." But right before we got into the building it was filled to the brim!
Over 4,000 home schoolers marched to the
Capital Building.
We looked like we were on a mission, a mission to fullfill a duty to be free. It took well over an hour to get in the doors, and just on the other side; My eyes gazed upon the the Capital Building's ornate walls. They were decorated with murals of all kinds, it was beautiful. It's beauty was enhanced with all the people in it. My favorite part was when, literally every one sang; 'America the Beautiful', 'God Bless America', 'Amazing
Grace', and 'The Star-Spangled Banner.'
It was the first time in history they opened the doors to a hearing session.
But what really put the icing on the cake was that two of the BEST FRIENDS I  could have was there too!
From left to right, Bailey,Andrea, Me and Kayla
To top it off I met my long lost cousin,
Sheila Campbell along with her husband, Charlie and her
son (who are home schoolers). What a surprise package!
